A day after more than 50 people were killed and dozens injured by a terrorist attack while they performing their mass at St. Francis Catholic Church in the Owaluwa area of Owo in Nigeria, unknown “bandits” kidnapped a group of people in Abuja Estate on Monday.

The suspected attackers were holding bows, arrows and machetes, reported Nation Online on Monday, saying that the police have not yet confirmed the incident.

On Sunday, gunmen opened fire at worshippers inside St. Francis Catholic Church, starting their shooting at the entrance of the church, and then they threw explosives at the church altar, Tribune Online reported, adding that the number of worshippers was at least 500.

Among the victims are women and children, local media reported.

“It is so sad that while the Holy Mass was going on, unknown gunmen attacked St. Francis Catholic Church… leaving many feared dead and many others injured and the Church violated,” the Catholic Church spokesman in Nigeria, Reverend Augustine Ikwu, was quoted as saying by SABC.
